Frequently Asked Questions

How does TapeACall work?

TapeACall works by creating a 3 way call between you, the caller you want to record, and our TapeACall service. When you're on a call you want to record, simply open the TapeACall app and press record. The app will dial our TapeACall access number and begin recording as soon as we answer. Simply merge the calls and your conversation will be recorded.

I never received an activation code?

It's extremely important that you double check you've entered your phone number correctly. If you enter your phone number wrong, TapeACall will not be able to function properly. Please contact us if you have any problems.

How can I speed up the recording process?

On CDMA networks such as Verizon and Sprint, it can take up to 30 seconds for the "Merge Calls" button to become enabled. While we explain in our tutorial to place a call to someone first, you can actually do it the other away around. Open TapeACall and press record. Once the "Add Call" button becomes enabled, call the person you want to record and don't forget to press "Merge Calls" once it becomes enabled. This will prevent having to put the other person on hold for 30 seconds while you wait to merge the calls.

How long does it take to get my recording?

As soon as you hang up, we process the recording and push it to your phone within seconds. It may take slightly longer to process recordings longer than 30 minutes. TapeACall processes your recording by automatically removing any silence from the beginning of your recording so your recording begins playing the moment someone starts talking.

I can't see a recording I just made?

Please try pulling down on the Recordings screen to refresh your list of call recordings. While the majority of recordings are available seconds after you hangup, long recordings may take a few minutes before they are available.

I cannot merge the calls?

TapeACall uses your iPhone's conference call feature to record. Please call your carrier to confirm 3 way conference calling is enabled on your account.

Does it cost money to call the access number?

We have access numbers in major cities across the world in order to provide a local number to dial in to. We try to do this so you will only use your regular cell phone minutes from your carrier. Since the definition of "local call" varies from country to country, it's best to contact your carrier if you're unsure.

Are there any hidden fees?
